Can you run Batman Arkham Knight?

Play Arkham Knight without breaking the Bank

This is the million-dollar question on every PC gamers mind right now, as we fast approach the release of Batman Arkham Knight.

Rocksteady Studios and WB Games released the system requirements that you can read below. Much like most games requirements they aren’t set in stone and more of a guide.

MINIMUM:

OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2* (*NVIDIA video card recommended if running Vista OS)

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz

Memory: 4 GB RAM

Graphics: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB / AMD HD 4870 1GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)

Hard Drive: 65 GB available space

Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible

RECOMMENDED:

OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1

Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHz (8 CPUs)

Memory: 8 GB RAM

Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD 7870 2GB

Hard Drive: 65 GB available space

Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible

For example an i7 3770 isn’t necessary to play this game, you can easily swap that out for an i5 4690, which is a popular CPU for gaming rigs.

Pair the 4690 with an ASUS Z97-P Motherboard and 8GB of Ram or more and you have a great build, for an affordable price.

While the GTX 660 is a great 1080p card, the enthusiast looking to play Batman Arkham Knight over 30 frames per second may prefer a GTX 760 with 3GB of memory.

Of course there are more to choose from in todays market such as a GTX 960, 970 or 980. All of which come with a free copy of Batman Arkham Knight as of right now.

The GTX 970 will comfortably run Batman Arkham Knight at 1080p 60 frames per second and many other titles releasing this year.

GTX 960 should be fine too but the frame rate will be more on par with PS4 or Xbox One. As for the GTX 980 it will be overkill for a game like this at 1080p and will be suited towards the gamer playing at higher resolutions.

AMD is definitely an option here too but will not take advantage of NVIDIA GameWorks technology. Essentially forcing you to buy a NVIDIA GPU to get enhanced rain and fog effects.

However if this isn’t a deterrent then the R9 280 is a fantastic 1080p card which will give you performance on par with consoles and beyond, yo-yoing between 30 to 50 frames per second on most games.

It’s difficult to say at this point if a R9 290 would be a good investment for Batman Arkham Knight, as it doesn’t take advantage of NVIDIA GameWorks but rest assure its superb value for money and will play most game at 1080p 60 frames per second without braking a sweat.

Batman Arkham Knight will be released for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on 23rd June 2015.
